If you have been following along (as some of you have), you’ll know that my nearly month-long journey into the internet marketing business has seen me learn and develop quite a number of new skills – the most impressive of which is this very blog that you are reading. However, up till now, I would have to say that all of the stuff I have learned and all of the things I have accomplished were pretty cool. Now things are starting to get interesting.

For those of us in Dean Holland’s Starting with Marketing coaching program, this week we were introduced to Module 4 – List Lingo, which is all about building your list. As the saying goes, the money is in the list. This is where our patience is starting to pay off because we will start learning about how to create this mystical list that I keep hearing about. This is the module that I’m sure many of my fellow students have been eagerly anticipating. As well, this is the stuff that when implemented, will start to produce results that show a light at the end of the tunnel.

For those of you that know me, you know that my ‘tech’ skills are really lousy. I have watched all of the videos in Module 4 and I have a single thought that is running through my mind – I’m going to have to watch these several times. My plan is to set aside some time this weekend and really go over this material in great detail.

One more thing is that I signed up with an autoresponder service through Aweber. I have to say that so far I am really impressed with this company. On the same day that I signed up, I got a call from Jordan (one of their representatives) who called to welcome me to their service and answer any questions that I may have had. I have to say that this was a very pleasant surprise and it makes me feel like there is someone there to support me. In addition to reviewing the Module 4 videos this weekend, I will also be reviewing their tutorial videos to help get me started.

There is a very famous book about self improvement which talks about the fact that it takes 21 days to form a new habit – more specifically, doing anything each day will become a habit after 21 days. For me, I have had this blog for 21 days and I wanted to chronicle the habits that I have developed during that time frame.

In the last 3 weeks, I have developed a daily routine which includes visiting the blogs of my fellow Starting with Marketing students. I log into my blog’s dashboard to see if anyone left me any comments, which I then respond to. I log into Google Analytics to see how many people paid me a visit and from which part of the world they came from. All said, the biggest adjustment for me was to find time to do all of this. With a little baby at home, the habit that I have managed to develop was time management.

We have learned from Module 1 that managing our time effectively is an essential component of success in this business. I have gotten to the point where the time I spend on my new endeavor has become part of my daily routine and a new habit that has managed to fit into my daily schedule.

Now all I need is to work out the kinks of Twitter and integrate that into my routine. I suspect that this will be the update 21 days from now.

I will admit it, I am an addict. This is what I have become since I started on this path with the Starting with Marketing coaching program. What am I referring to? I am addicted to checking out all of my ‘stats’ every chance I get.

Let me put this in perspective. Before August 2009, my internet usage was limited to checking email and looking up stuff on Google. Now, I’m checking out who is following me on Twitter and logging into my Google Analytics account to see who is checking out my blog. I sit at my computer more times in 1 day than I used to over an entire week – maybe even an entire month.

Speaking of Google Analytics, I am fascinated with the idea that people around the world are checking out what I have to say. It still blows my mind. I keep looking at that map on the bottom right hand side to see where people are visiting from. Here I am in Canada and I’m getting visitors from as far away as Australia and New Zealand. Not only that, but these people keep coming back to see what I will write about next. Unbelievable!

So if the first of 12 steps is admitting that I have a problem, here it is – I am an addict. I am addicted to regularly checking my progress. I guess if there is any one addiction to have, its an addiction to succeeding at building an internet business.

A mere three weeks ago, I was sifting through the first set of Starting with Marketing videos. After banging my head against the wall and almost quitting several times, I finally got it up (my blog that is). ‘From the Mind of Teddy Kasche’ was officially launched on August 1st, 2009 – Amazing, isn’t it?

Two weeks after launching, I’m now posting to my blog and tweeting (although I’m still struggling with some tech issues with Twitter – all of which are on my end). Here’s a guy who thought that c-panel is something that followed a-panel & b-panel in the dictionary and now I actually am creating stuff that is being seen halfway around the world. I have to say that I am quite impressed with how far I have advanced in the past two week. Can you imagine what the next two will have in store?

I want to thank all of you who have answered my forum questions – as simple and as basic as they may have seemed. Your guidence has really helped me gain some knowledge, but even more importantly, it has helped me gain the confidence to keep going. For me, the SWM coaching program was a major turning point from which none of this could have happened. Thanks Dean!

Whenever you watch one of those TV infomercials (30 minute television ads), you always see the person that claims – “If I can do it, anyone can”. I want to be that guy.

First off, lets not deny the fact that you watch TV infomercials – its a guilty pleasure. That being said here is why I make that statement. You’ll notice that the subheading of my blog is about an inspirational story. I want to prove to others (and myself) that without any prior knowledge or experience, having the right coach/mentor as well as the right attitude and tenacity, anyone can succeed. In this case, Dean Holland is my mentor and Starting with Marketing is my coaching program.

Lets be clear – when I say that I have no prior Internet Marketing experience, I mean ZERO. I have struggled with some of the more basic concepts of setting up my blog (just as an example). I’m not going to make the claim that I wasn’t a techie (except for some basic HTLM). As far as I know, HTML stands for ‘Hate to miss Lunch’. I have absolutely no previous internet and/or marketing experience.

What motivates me to succeed in launching this business is the idea that I can inspire others to do the same. It doesn’t even have to be an internet business. I’m talking about conquering a challenge that you want to take on – even if it scares the living daylights out of you.

I hope my journey will provide the necessary inspiration and motivation for all of you. Till next time!

I have to say that taking a couple of days off has really helped me get better. While I’m not quite 100%, I can actually retain the SWM info that I’m going over. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that repetition is the key.

I heard an interesting statistic which stated that people need to hear something an average of 7 times before it registers. So why is it that often we will hear something once and act on it??? Human nature, I guess. Perhaps we are just lazy – I don’t know.

Since I really wants to advance my knowledge in this new found venture, I have decided to go back and review all of the Module 1 & 2 videos. I have already picked up a few things that I missed the first time around.

My one piece of advice (for those that may be interested) is to go back and review things… even if you think you got it all the first time. You’ll never know what hidden gems lie beneath the surface if you don’t go back and look for them.

Now that weekend is coming up and I would have a little bit more time to devote to my new online business venture – Murphy’s Law prevails and I get really sick.

Yesterday at lunch, it felt like I was swallowing broken glass. Immediately, I decide to make a doctor’s appointment – I’m told “it looks like strep throat”. I can’t take antibiotics until we get the results of the test, so now this weekend that I was planning on spending going over my SWM material, I get to spend feeling like crap.

If the flux capacitor ever sees the light of day, I will go back in time and find this Murphy guy and kick him in the junk. (I hope some of you got the time machine reference).

I remember when I was in school, every time we had to write a paper, we were asked to start with a theme. Why do I mention this? Because I have been obsessed with everyone’s blogs and the various ‘themes’ that people have chosen. I can’t be the only one out there who is not 100% satisfied with the theme they have chosen.

Is there one better that I have not yet encountered? Is the grass in fact greener? For that matter, have I titled my blog correctly? Does anyone actually care or am I just obsessing about nothing?

I guess its just the perfectionist in me that wants to make sure that my blog is the best it can be. Only time will tell…

It might not be as impressive as riding my bike for the first time without training wheels, but it sure feels like a major accomplishment. Just think about it – a few days ago, I knew nothing about this stuff. I was ready to punch a hole in the wall out of frustration. It seemed like everyone in the SWM coaching program was getting it but me. Now look at me, I’m a big boy – no longer wearing diapers, I’m in my training pants! (only those of you with kids will appreciate that)

I have decided to really put forth a genuine effort to learning this ‘internet stuff’. Wow, I sound like such an old man (back in my day, I had to bang on a rock to communicate with my friends). Actually, I’m not that old (still in my 30′s). I just never got into using the internet for anything more than checking my email. To me, Facebook was another name for a photo album :0)

I’m babbling on now, so I’ll cut it short. There’s a lot more where this came from…

Like a band that releases a successful debut album is faced with the pressures of their follow-up release, I too am wondering, ‘what should my next blog post be about?’. I suppose this is where we take a direction in what will ultimately be the theme of my blog.

In reality, I have plenty of things to say. At this time, the most relevant being that I am actually posting to my very own blog. How crazy is that? Two days ago, I was struggling with setting this thing up and was ready to throw my computer out the window. Today, I’m logging in to add another post. Unbelievable as this may seem, I owe many ‘Thank You’s to my fellow Starting with Marketing students – your forum posts have really helped me along.

Next on the list, is getting a solid grasp of this Twitter thing. I’ll let you know how that goes.
